ROP Adult and After School Classes


Auto Technology - San Rafael High School, Monday thru Thursday, 3:15 - 6:15 p.m. or 6:45 - 10:00 p.m. - Open-Entry Open-Exit - Students Need Not Attend all Four Days - Make Arrangements with the Instructor
Classes prepare students for jobs in the automotive or related fields and advanced technical training programs. Students receive hands-on instruction in the following areas:
•Electrical circuits & computer diagnosis •Exhaust systems & welding •Cooling systems •Shop procedures •Diagnostic testing •Smog testing •Basic mechanics •Automobile general service •Wheel alignment •Fuel system diagnosis & repair
This class articulates with the Auto Technology program at College of Marin.

Computerized Accounting/Bookkeeping - 4380 Redwood Hwy., Ste. A1, San Rafael, CA - Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Monday thru Thursday, 1:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., Tuesday & Thursday, 6:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. (See Business Office Technology Schedule Below)
Computerized Accounting is an introduction to bookkeeping, accounting and computerized accounting systems. Emphasis is placed on knowing accounting as it relates to careers, accounting terminology, understanding accounting concepts, principles and practices and applying accounting procedures. Students learn how to prepare and process financial data for computerized accounting systems, such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, inventory, payroll, purchasing and electronic spreadsheets.

Business Office Technology - 4380 Redwood Hwy., Ste. A1, San Rafael - This is an Open-Entry Open-Exit Year Round Class. Morning Sessions - Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Afternoon Sessions - Monday thru Thursday, 1:00 - 6:00 p.m. Morning and Afternoon Classes are Taught in 2-1/2 Hour Sections; Evening Sessions - Tuesday & Thursday, 6:30 - 9:00 p.m.

This program offers job training in a variety of basic office skills, including the use of technology in the modern office environment. Instruction and course work is offered at two levels. Level I offers training in basic entry level business skills, while Level II offers more advanced and specialized training. Level II course work requires previous office experience or training.

Culinary Occupations - New Beginnings Center - Novato, CA -
Monday thru Thursday - 9:30 am - 1:30 pm - Begins Fall 2008

This program is offered in conjunction with Homeward Bound of Marin and the Marin County Office of Education Regional Occupational Program. Students participating will obtain high school credit and will receive a certificate of completion issued by the Marin County Office of Education. Those interested will also be able to take the Food Safety Handler’s test for certification in sanitation and safety in the food service industry.
This course will have emphasis on the importance of good nutrition through meal planning and food preparation. Learning to work as a team, students will learn to make soups, sauces, salads and entrees. This class will participate in catering events both in house and within the community.

Construction - Novato and Redwood High Schools - Begins January 2009 - Evening Classes, 5:00 - 9:00 p.m.
This course covers foundation, flooring, framing, plumbing, electrical, sheet rock, windows, doors, cabinetry, roofing, blueprint reading and use of hand tools. Demonstrations by master craftsmen, construction projects and opportunities for placement will be provided.

Cosmetology - San Rafael Beauty Academy - San Rafael, CA - Ongoing
The Marin Regional Occupational Program (ROP) provides cosmetology training to a limited number of students each year. The Cosmetology course is certified by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education and approved by the State of California, Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Barbering and Cosmetology for the training required to obtain a state license as a cosmetologist.
The curriculum consists of 1600 hours in classroom and clinical floor instruction which includes training in all areas of hairdressing, chemical services (color, perms, etc.), as well as nail services and skin care practices. Students are trained in a practical salon environment and are exposed to all the requirements of their profession, i.e. salon management, good people skills and pride of workmanship.
Students are assisted in preparing and applying for their State Board License upon successful completion of 1600 hours.

Personal Home Care Worker - West Marin School, Pt. Reyes Station - Tuesdays - 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. - TBA
This 90 hour course offers entry level job training for work in the field of home health care. The training combines classroom (30 hours) and clinical (60 hours) instruction utilizing field site work experience facilitated through the West Marin Senior Services in Pt. Reyes. Topics include working with various client populations, home management skills, personal care and application of knowledge and skills.  Successful completion leads to an ROP Certificate of Completion for Personal Home Care Worker.

Certified Nurse’s Assistant - TBA
This course will train you to provide quality care to residents in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and home health agencies. It consists of 12 units focused on all aspects of resident care, including resident rights, infection control, communication, safety procedures, the aging process, assisting residents with personal care, taking vital signs, admitting and discharging residents, death and dying, modifying care, restorative nursing and time management. Model Curriculum for Nurse Assistants (NATAP), Chancellor’s Office will be used. Employment skills will be covered under Regional Occupational Program guidelines.Upon successful completion of the course, you will be qualified to take the examination to become a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
